Archaeology spanning 12,000 years was discovered during excavations at Guardbridge. It included Late Upper Palaeolithic and late Mesolithic flint scatters, and evidence of early farming in Fife during the Neolithic. This was followed by a Bronze Age roundhouse settlement with evidence of metalworking during the late Bronze Age. A late Bronze Age multivallate fort was investigated that overlooked the Eden estuary. Later evidence included Medieval corn-drying kilns.
