Excavation revealed an early Neolithic monumental timber enclosure. After a gap of some two thousand years, a roundhouse was built and occupied during the Late Bronze Age and Iron Age. This was succeeded by another roundhouse surrounded by a timber palisade in the early centuries AD. A continental enamelled disc brooch of the late second century AD was associated with the construction of this palisaded enclosure. This was succeeded by three early medieval kilns, from sometime between the early fifth and mid sixth centuries AD.
