ARO14: Pits, pots and pitchstone:excavation of a multi-phase site at Main Street, Monkton

Excavations at Monkton in Ayrshire revealed Mesolithic features dated to the first quarter of the seventh millennium BC. A range of artefacts and radiocarbon dates indicate subsequent intermittent phases of Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age occupation. This latter phase was represented by a ring-groove roundhouse that was later truncated by medieval and post-medieval cultivation furrows.
